چکیده

The P/2eratio of noncyclic photophosphorylation was investigated in the light of recent reports that it is greater than one and may reflect the existence of two types of electron transport, a phosphorylating and a nonphosphorylating type, superimposed on each other. Our results, obtained under experimental conditions that included those reported to be conducive to high ratios, are consistent with the operation in noncyclic photophosphorylation of only one type of electron transport which, in the presence of ADP, orthophosphate, and Mg++, leads to ATP formation with a P/2eof 1. The reported P/2eratios approaching 4 when electron acceptors such as ferricyanide are added at slow rates were not contkmed.

STN7 Operates in Retrograde Signaling through Controlling Redox Balance in the Electron Transfer Chain

Phosphorylation of the major photosynthetic light harvesting antenna proteins by STN7 kinase balances excitation between PSII and PSI. Phosphorylation of such abundant proteins is unique, differing distinctively from conventional tasks of protein kinases in phosphorylation of low abundance proteins in signaling cascades. Excitation balance between PSII and PSI is critical for redox homeostasis ...

Photosynthetic complex stoichiometry dynamics in higher plants: environmental acclimation and photosynthetic flux control

The composition of the photosynthetic apparatus of higher plants is dynamically adjusted to long-term changes in environmental conditions such as growth light intensity and light quality, and to changing metabolic demands for ATP and NADPH imposed by stresses and leaf aging. By changing photosynthetic complex stoichiometry, a long-term imbalance between the photosynthetic production of ATP and ...

Mass spectrometric resolution of reversible protein phosphorylation in photosynthetic membranes of Arabidopsis thaliana.

The use of mass spectrometry to characterize the phosphorylome, i.e. the constituents of the proteome that become phosphorylated, was demonstrated using the reversible phosphorylation of chloroplast thylakoid proteins as an example. From the analysis of tryptic peptides released from the surface of Arabidopsis thylakoids, the principal phosphoproteins were identified by matrix-assisted laser de...

The mutant of sll1961, which encodes a putative transcriptional regulator, has a defect in regulation of photosystem stoichiometry in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803.

In acclimation to changing light environments, photosynthetic organisms modulate the ratio of two photosynthetic reaction centers (photosystem I [PSI] and photosystem II). One mutant, which could not modulate photosystem stoichiometry upon the shift to high light, was isolated from mutants created by random transposon mutagenesis. Measurements of chlorophyll fluorescence and analysis of the rea...

Stoichiometry of the photosynthetic apparatus and phycobilisome structure of the cyanobacterium Plectonema boryanum UTEX 485 are regulated by both light and temperature.

The role of growth temperature and growth irradiance on the regulation of the stoichiometry and function of the photosynthetic apparatus was examined in the cyanobacterium Plectonema boryanum UTEX 485 by comparing mid-log phase cultures grown at either 29 degrees C/150 micromol m(-2) s(-1), 29 degrees C/750 micromol m(-2) s(-1), 15 degrees C/150 micromol m(-2) s(-1), or 15 degrees C/10 micromol...
